Sustainable Bowdoin and the Environmental Studies department both employ students throughout the school year.
Sustainable Bowdoin’s Sustainability Assistants provide research on topics such as green building design, energy conservation and waste reduction; write and post the monthly "Installment" on sustainability; and work on campus programs including the annual trash and food waste audits, energy and recycling competitions, and outreach for promoting sustainable behaviors on campus. Student recyclers work in association with Facilities Management to provide a recycling program to campus apartments. The Sustainable Bowdoin office also hires the Bowdoin EcoReps. The EcoReps for each year are hired the previous spring so they can be ready to work as soon as the school year starts. Contact Keisha Payson for more information.
The Environmental Studies department employs students in connection with a range of projects including planning and publicizing the program’s many co-curricular events, connecting with alumni and updating alumni profiles, and creating a weekly ES newsletter with events and job opportunities. In addition students work in support of community based classes projects. One example is the development of a webpage that posts student research for use by middle school teachers and students. Contact Eileen Johnson in the Environmental Studies Office to learn more.
