2011 Energy Competition Winners

The Energy Savings Dorm Competition for 2011 resulted in a net savings of 19,296 pounds of CO2, 24,995 kilowatt-hours, and $3,249 on campus. That's the equivalent of removing more than two average American homes off the grid for an entire year! Sustainable Bowdoin explores just how successful the 10th Annual Competition was.

Annual Trash Audit Leads to Campus-wide Recycling Campaign

On a brisk but sunny Friday morning in late October, the Bowdoin College EcoReps conducted a trash audit of the eight freshmen dorms. The goal was to sort through three or four bags of trash from each dorm and see what recyclables were going into the dumpster. The result? Express lunch waste dominated.
