IRA Charitable Distribution

You can once again make a tax-free gift directly from your IRA to Bowdoin!  If you’re 70½ or older,  you can make charitable gifts of up to $100,000/year for both 2010 and 2011 straight from your IRA – without paying federal income tax on the withdrawal or increasing your adjusted gross income.  Your gift also counts towards your required minimum distribution.

As of December 17, 2010, Congress has extended the IRA Charitable Distribution retroactively to January 1, 2010 and running through December 31, 2011.  Because the legislation passed so late in 2010, there is a one-time opportunity to make 2010 distributions in January 2011.

Contact your IRA account administrator to request they distribute your gift directly to Bowdoin.  Learn more about how to make a gift from your IRA (PDF).
