Orientation and First Year Programming

Information on transportation options for students traveling alone and for students traveling with family and guests can be found below. The closest airport to Bowdoin is the Portland International Jetport, which is about 30 miles south of campus. Concord Trailways, a New England bus company, runs a bus from Portland to the campus daily.  

Students Traveling with Family and Guests

A number of transportation options are available for families and guests who are traveling to campus with an incoming first-year student. For travel schedules and information please contact these services directly:

Students Traveling Alone

Public and private transportation is available from Portland, Maine to Bowdoin College for students traveling alone on either arrival day.  If requested, Bowdoin vans will collect students on Tuesday, August 21 for Orientation trips. Via email and the Class of 2016 Facebook page, our office will attempt to connect students with similar schedules in an effort to offer cost sharing opportunities.   

If you need transportation from Portland to Bowdoin, please contact a student coordinator listed below as soon as possible with your travel plans. Be sure to include your name, the origin of your trip, airline name and flight number, or bus company, and arrival time in any correspondence about travel. Please plan to arrive on campus between 9:00-4:00 on Tuesday, August 21, 2012.
