In May 2009, the Board of Trustees approved the project that includes the replacement of two aging and inefficient boilers with a new high-efficiency, low emissions, dual-fuel (natural gas and #2 oil) boiler and the installation of a back pressure steam turbine, which will produce an estimated 1.65 million kilowatt hours of electricity annually.
This combined heat and power project will use excess steam energy to generate electricity for campus consumption, offsetting electricity currently purchased from the grid.
