Printing to a Networked Printer

When you first get your office computer, it should have been set up to print to the networked printer that is closest to your office.  If you need to print to another printer in your office area, follow these steps:

Windows:

  • From the Start menu, choose Run...
  • Next to Open:, type:  \\bradbury\name-of-printer-you-want-to-print-to, e.g., \\bradbury\snert
  • After a short wait, a window will appear with the name of the printer at the top.  When you print from an application, (e.g., Word), that printer can now be selected from the list of your printers.Macintosh (Leopard - OS 10.5):Macintosh (Leopard - OS 10.5):

Macintosh (Snowleopard - OS 10.6):

  • Click on the Apple Menu and choose System Preferences...
  • Click on the Print & Fax icon
  • Click on the + sign to add a new printer
  • Click on the IP icon at the top of the window.

Complete the settings as follows:
Protocol: Line Printer Daemon - LPD
Address: bradbury
Queue: printer name (case sensitive)  e.g., snert
Name: name of printer on bradbury
Location:  (ignore)
Click on: Select Printer Software

Choose the model printer from the list
Click OK
Click the Add button.
Choose the options that the printer has.

Macintosh (Leopard - OS 10.5):

  • Click on the Apple Menu and choose System Preferences...
  • Click on the Print & Fax icon
  • Click on the + sign to add a new printer
  • Click on the IP icon at the top of the window.

Complete the settings as follows:
Protocol: Line Printer Daemon - LPD
Address: bradbury
Queue: printer name (case sensitive)  e.g., snert
Name: name of printer on bradbury
Location:  (ignore)
Print using:
Select a driver to use...  (You will need to select your printer make and model from the list)

Click the Add button.

Choose the options that the printer has.
