Chemistry Students have Access to State of the Art Instrumentation

Chemistry students routinely use sophisticated instrumentation, including a Bruker multinuclear 400 MHz nuclear magnetic resonance spectrometer, a Varian Vista MPX inductively coupled plasma (ICP) spectrometer, and an IonSpec HiRes Matrix Assisted Laser Desorption/Ionization (MALDI)-Fourier Mass Spectrometer (FTMS). The MALDI- FTMS is the only instrument of its kind at an undergraduate institution.

The department maintains a broad spectrum of state-of-the-art instrumentation that are kept up-to-date and are maintained by our instrument support technician, who also provides training on all instruments.

ICP-OES instruments are used for environmental applications that include the determination of trace level heavy metal contaminants in water samples.
