Visiting the Schooner Bowdoin in Boothbay Harbor

Story posted June 29, 2011

Outreach Coordinator Amy Hawkes and Curatorial Intern Hillary Hooke took the three summer student interns, Molly Taft '11, Fhiwa Ndou '13, and Becky Rosen '13, to Boothbay Harbor to see the Schooner Bowdoin. The group was able to tour the deck of the schooner, and with permission of the Maine Maritime Academy crew (including Bowdoin Captain Eric Jergenson) were able to go below decks and visit Donald and Miriam MacMillan's cabin, as well as the galley and the crew quarters. Later the Arctic Museum group visited the Boothbay Opera House, where Donald MacMillan gave his famous Arctic lecture and film, now available as a dvd in the Peary-MacMillan Arctic Museum gift shop. Enjoy these photos of the Arctic Museum crew having a great time aboard the Bowdoin!
