Tenure Materials List

  1. an up-to-date c.v.;
  2. a self-evaluative statement. This is an opportunity to describe one's experience of teaching, professional attainment, and service to the College, and to comment on any aspects of the record that may need interpretation. The candidate should try to place his or her scholarly or artistic work in a context that will enable those who are unfamiliar with the discipline to understand the work's significance. It would also be helpful to discuss how one sees one's scholarly/artistic interests developing in the future. Discussions of teaching might address such topics as general pedagogical goals, specific course goals, challenges faced, responses to concerns/comments of colleagues or of students, innovations, contributions to the curriculum. Contributions to the college community should include those to the intellectual and artistic life of the campus as well as to departmental and college governance. Please be brief and to-the-point.
  3. copies of all of the materials furnished for the external reviewers (the candidate's published scholarly work or equivalent artistic materials, plus any unpublished materials or works in progress on which the candidate believes it appropriate to be evaluated).
  4. all syllabi and any other selected course materials (e.g., assignments, exams) used during the semesters the candidate has been teaching at the College, including the semester of the review; these materials should be sufficiently representative to enable reviewers to judge the ways that courses have evolved over time and the nature of work required of students;
  5. all College Student Opinion forms and numeric summary data for courses they have taught at Bowdoin since appointment to the tenure track.
